Dr. Barika M. Butler
Barika M. Butler, MD, MHCM, is a double board certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist, performance coach, and physician executive. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology and the Cognitive Sciences. She earned her medical degree at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Following her graduation, Dr. Butler completed her residency in Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She then further extended her specialty training, completing a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. Dr. Butler honed her business and public health expertise at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she graduated with a Masters in Health Care Management. Dr. Butler is an experienced clinician in medical and psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults. She is an expert in developing elite performers as the CEO of Peak Performance Global, a firm specializing in sports and performance psychiatry and executive and organizational coaching. She holds two board certifications from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Child and Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry. Dr. Butler is committed to innovation and is on the cutting edge in healthcare technology and telemedicine.
A skilled and results-driven administrator, Dr. Butler has led key change initiatives as the Chief Medical Officer for one of the largest public behavioral health providers in the country.
Dr. Butler’s achievements and services have been recognized with several awards. She has been named a Notable Woman in Medicine by Crain’s Detroit and is a University of Michigan Alumni Association distinguished Alumni award recipient. She is an active member of many professional societies, including the American Psychiatric Association, the Michigan Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the International Society of Sports Psychiatry, and the American Association for Physician Leadership. Her expertise has led to her serving as an expert contributor in print, radio, television, and social media article releases. She also holds an appointment on the State of Michigan Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
When not working in medicine or coaching, this engaged community leader pursues her passions by encouraging others and their successes through a number of avenues, including via her role as a member of the Alumni Association Board of Governors for the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Her civic involvement ranges from her volunteer work with the Junior League of Detroit and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. to her position in the Girl Scouts of Southeast Michigan as a Girl Scout Leader. When not working professionally, she lends her time and knowledge to youth exploring STEAM fields and to young physicians by providing mentorship and guidance.
